What’s My Name

Eventually, every blogger feels the need to do a “who I am” post, about who they are, and why they blog, and what got them started. So here’s mine.

I am 31 years old, married, with 2 kids (ages 6 and 2). I live in Georgia. I created this site (in April of 2005) to track my personal debt reduction. At that time I owed over 11 thousand dollars. Now, less than 1 year later, I no longer owe anyone any money, and I have 9 thousand dollars in the bank. That’s a 20 thousand dollar turn-around in less than 11 months.

Why did I start the blog? I’m not really sure, other than I wanted a place where I could be held accountable, where I could share my thoughts, blah, blah, blah. Same thing every other blogger says. Truth is: I like to talk about money, and everyone I know is broke, and I don’t want to be like everyone else I know. So, I started the blog so that I could get to know people who were interested in BEING different. “Same-Ness” is a disease.

My primary goal, for the rest of my life, is to live without borrowing money. I want to buy cars with cash, buy Christmas presents with cash, and even buy a home with cash. Right now, I am busy stashing away money in my ING Direct savings account, and I am going to begin some investing. I’d love to retire by the time I am 50.

I don’t borrow money. Period. I have come to find that I am different from almost every other personal finance blogger. I don’t play card-surf games, I don’t use a reward credit cards, and I don’t believe in “good” and “bad” debt. The borrower is slave to the lender, and I’ve never heard of a truly “good” slave master. Maybe less “bad”, but never “good”.

A few months ago, I started the No Credit Needed Network to inspire others to get out of debt and save money. I also produce the No Credit Needed Podcast. Links to these sites can be found at the upper right-hand side of this page. I hope you will check them out, and consider joining the NCN Network and/or subscribing to the NCN Podcast.

My inspirations:
Larry Burkett (He’s in heaven now!) Dave Ramsey and (Brand New) David Allen. Check out my latest podcast for more info about David Allen.

Well, there’s my “getting to know me” post. I hope you all enjoyed it. The time is now 2:40 in the AM, and I am really, really tired, but I cannot go to sleep.

I want you all to know that I have really, really enjoyed my experience as a blogger, and many of you have inspired me, corrected me, challenged me, and encouraged me. Thank you.

Sincerely,
NCN

Man, I am a dork!
