My wife teaches first grade so she has the summer “off”. She and I spent the day cleaning up around the house. Here’s a partial list of the things we did.
I mowed the lawn, painted the back bathroom, put the sub-flooring down in the playhouse, used the blower to blow of the driveway, raked up a big pile of leaves, cleaned the interior of my car, and rehung two cabinet doors. She helped me pickup all of the scrap pieces of wood “leftover” from playhouse construction, cleaned out the van, organized the tools in the shed, swept out the carport, and organized my daughter’s closet. Needless to say, we are exhausted, but it feels good to “take care” of these things.
For some reason, I “feel” better when our house is clean, the yard looks nice, the clothes have been folded, and everything is “in its place”.
Side note: I am thinking about “raiding” my emergency fund so that I can go ahead and fully fund two Roth IRAs for 2007. I’ll make my decision sometime in the next few days. If I did so, I’d still have 6 months worth of expenses in savings, but I’d also “tie up” $8K in retirement accounts. We shall see.
So you have a years worth of savings in your emergency fund? Nice! Sounds like a decent idea to me. And by the way I feel rather lazy after reading the list of things you have accompished.

I feel the same way when we clean the house for company. I love it when it smells clean and looks fresh. Usually it’s dump.
I totally know what you mean about feeling better when things are “in its place” and the house is organized and clean. You got an amazing about of things done over the weekend! That feeling of relaxing at night after working hard all day and seeing the fruits of your labor is awesome.
